co2online and the Climate Protection Campaign

co2online gemeinnützige GmbH is a non-profit limited liability company that is campaigning for a reduction in emissions of the environmentally harmful gas carbon dioxide (CO2). The central approach here is: climate protection by means of energy saving through dialogue. With online advisers, communal heating consultants and a climate quiz, as well as portal partners from business, media and politics, co2online motivates private households, trade and commerce to become actively involved in climate protection – and to save money at the same time!

co2online ( www.co2online.de) informs and motivates mainly in the area of technical modernisation measures for heating and thermal insulation in existing buildings and energy-saving appliances and is running the "Climate Seeks Protection" campaign, which is co-funded by the German Environment Ministry.

co2online in Europe
First projects outside Germany were started in fall 2006 because of growing interest in online advisers from Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, UK, Netherlands, and Poland. Since the advisers were financed in Germany, local funding is only required for translation and adaptation. Potential national partners, preferably also non-profit, are welcome to inquire about details.

"Climate Seeks Protection": A Campaign to Get Involved In
840 million tons of CO2 are emitted each year in Germany. Private households are responsible for one seventh of this, which equates to 120 million tons in total. 80% of the energy they consume is used exclusively for heating and hot water. With today's technology, about half of the resulting CO2 emissions are economically avoidable.

Co2online is running the campaign since 2004. In the core of the campaign 10 different online adviser at over 700 portal partners websites lead to direct dialogue with private households to motivate them for energy saving activities. The network approach succeeded:

  • More than 2 million online consultations were effected since July 04.

  • Currently about 60-100,000 online consultations are reached per month.

  • About 50,000 online building modernisation consultations are achieved per year.

The aim of the campaign is to reduce CO2 emissions of private households and small consumers due to heating, electricity and transport. Because: curbing the climate change is one of the central challenges of the 21st century. Those who save (fossil fuel) energy are helping to stop the growing proportion of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
