ARPE, regional public agency, was created in 1979. Its aim is to develop and help environmental matters to be taken into account in any project liked to Provence-Alpes-Côte d´Azur territory.

Its mission is to develop and assist in the consideration of the environment in any project for the area of Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur for the government and local authorities.

Result of the common will of the Region and Departments to have on the regional territory, a technical tool in the field, the agency operates daily to initiate and support the setting up of projects, explore and validate new methods of interventions to educate, inform and lead.

The agency consists of five units:
Water and sanitation - Ecodevelopment and territorial projects - Infocenter - Networks and Events - General Services

The Union Committee, chaired by Edgar Malaussena, Regional Adviser and Mayor of Villars-sur-Var, associates Regional Advisors, Councillors, representatives of the Regional Economic and Social Council, and representatives of ARPE partners.

All of the Agency is directed and organized according to these objectives, stating the original purpose and values of the ARPE:

Innovation: ARPE is intended to develop and enhance the emergence of practical and innovative approaches in the wake of public policy initiated by the member communities, with public sector and inhabitants of the regional territory, both at technical or methodological levels in the fields of sustainable development.

Animation: ARPE has a mission of animation with actors of the environment and sustainable development within the territory. It leads the networks "protected natural spaces," "Water Environment”," Regional exchange space for social value of the environment, "sustainable territories", "Public purchasing and Sustainable Development" and "development areas and sustainable development. "
It is also open to other areas, while developing partnerships with networks of public sector, associations and professionals already in place.

Mutualisation: ARPE is a technical tool. Through its resources and expertise, the Agency aims to serve actors of its territory through the provision of tools (GIS, observation systems, management...), resources (including support for projects by project managers) and organizing events.
The Agency implements in particular the Regional Meetings for Environment, European programs, systems and observation methods and information on careers and jobs in the environment, the energy, waste, biodiversity, ecological footprint ...
