MANAGENERGY: Energy agencies as leaders in the energy transition - your opinion matters!

The new ManagEnergy initiative of the European Commission will support regional and local energy agencies in developing new services and activities. The focus is on sustainable energy investments and how energy agencies can become leaders in the energy transition.  There is a wide consensus that more energy efficiency and renewable energy investments are needed and that the regional/local level is key to making these investments happen. Energy agencies are in a unique position to support this process and thereby strengthen their role in their region/city. This survey aims to better understand your…

RAEE becomes Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Energie Environnement

Rhônalpénergie-Environnement becomes Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Énergie Environnement (AURA-EE). The Rhônalpénergie-Environnement (RAEE) General Assembly validated the change of name of this agency created four decades ago last July. The new name, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Energy Environment, attempts to take into account the Auvergne area and demonstrates a stronger link between the region and its energy agency. Beyond the name, the agency starts a new territorial approach where the energy, climate and environmental issues are integrated into overall development strategies.   RAEE devient Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Énergie Environnement : un nouveau projet pour l'agence régionale https://t.co/URVY2qwW1J — AURA-EE (@RAEE_RA) August 3, 2017 More information here

MOTIVATE, Mediterranean cities share with you

Seasonality takes a heavy toll on transport infrastructure and environmental quality in Mediterranean cities, which are often unprepared to accommodate large shifts in population during high tourist seasons. Increasing the use and access to low carbon systems becomes therefore a priority, allowing travellers, i.e. residents and visitors, to move around in ways that help preserve the natural and cultural heritage of Mediterranean cities, all while strengthening social cohesion and improving local quality of life. MOTIVATE, financed under the “Urban Transports” thematic of Interreg MED, contributes to the uptake…

Sustainable smart Lighting system - DIADEME project

Most of Europe’s energy is consumed by cities and urban areas, which are also the origin of most greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Street lighting is a key public service provided by public authorities at the local and municipal level, and it is essential for road and personal safety and overall quality of life in urban communities. The LIFE-DIADEME project will demonstrate a cost-efficient new street lighting dimming system that is designed to reduce energy consumption by 30% in comparison with state-of-the-art control systems. A distributed network of some 1…

Energy positive sewage treatment plants - A sustainable solution for climate protection in municipalities

The municipal wastewater in Europe contains an available chemical energy of about 87,500 GWh per year. This corresponds roughly to the capacity of 12 large power plants. Due to the currently used technologies and the associated energy loss in the individual process steps, sewage treatment in Europe instead consumes primary energy of more than two power plants. The use of the available chemical energy represents a great opportunity for municipalities, wastewater associations and operators of sewage treatment plants to evolve from an energy user to an energy producer and thus, on the…
