"7th citizens’ Meeting on Mobility - Mobility in the Cities of the 21st Century" Workshop - 19/11/2008 in Bilbao, Spain

The workshop on "Mobility and Innovation", organized in Bilbao on 19th of November 2008 is part of the MOVE project, co-financed by Intelligent Energy Europe (IEE).

Four FEDARENE members, the Basque Energy Board (EVE), the Energy Agency for Southeast Sweden, the Tipperary Energy Agency (TEA) and the Energy Agency of Plovdiv are partner organisations of the MOVE project.

The workshop will constitute the concluding event of the 2-years MOVE project, which started in January 2006. The purpose of MOVE project is to select tools, establish methods and standards within the partnership based on existing European initiatives that can be used to achieve changes in attitudes and behaviour leading to a change towards less energy intensive transport modes. Its main objective is to encourage more European communities to work with mobility issues and to offer alternatives to the use of fossil fuels leading to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, given the fact that today transport stands for one third of our energy consumption and more than 28% of CO2 emissions.

The workshop will present the results of the MOVE project, as well as some insights from other projects in related field, such as the NICHES project. It will also introduce SUMO, a tool for evaluating mobility projects. In the afternoon, practical case studies of successful mobility projects in several European cities will be highlighted.

"Sustainable Transport and Mobility – Challenges and Approaches" - 30/01/2008 (during the 2008 Sustainable Energy Week)

The transport sector plays an important role in the European economy and as such accounts for around 30 percent of the energy consumption in Europe. Moreover transport is as well the fastest growing sector in terms of energy use, and in this sense it is essential to realise the potential for energy efficiency gains in this sector.
