For many years European
energy agencies have successfully promoted energy efficiency at local
and regional level. Not so many of them have been active in transports
although this sector stands for one third of our energy consumption and
more than 28% of CO2 emissions.
M●VE
is a project built on the partnership of 7 European energy agencies or
similar representing different stages of maturity and a variety of
experiences in Mobility Management but with a common interest to
increase their skills and engagement in transports. During the project
period, 2006-08, the partners will acquire the skills, the tools and the
platform needed for the work with transports. By carrying out projects
on local level they will give input to some Good examples and best
practices for their future work.
The purpose with the project is to
contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions through:
-
Raising the awareness among local
authorities, companies and public in general;
-
Obtaining changes in people's
attitudes and behaviour;
-
Preparing for a modal shift towards
less energy intensive modes;
-
Providing target groups with tools
such as general methods that will help to reach the goals;
-
Dissemination of project results such
as good examples and Best practices in order to benefit from the
work in other regions.
The objectives will be achieved by:
-
Creating a Mobility Management Network
Cluster that will provide the means for exchange of know-how and
information between the project partners as well as among market
actors in the participating regions;
-
Identifying indicators based on
existing European initiatives and adapted to suit local conditions;
-
Creating Mobility agencies or similar
platforms that will act as information and promotion centres and
carry out projects addressing to local authorities, companies and
other stakeholders;
-
Collecting Good examples and Best
practices in a handbook to give inspiration and guidelines for
further work within Mobility Management.
The progress of the project:
The establishment of M●VE started in
January 2006 and was followed by a kick-off meeting and two transnational workshops in Kalmar, Sweden in the beginning of April
2006. During the meeting the partnership agreed about a common platform
for their future work.
The decision was made to under go common
training on transport through e-ATOMIUM during the next meeting, which
will be held in Chieti, Italy in October 2006.
Another decision was to commit to the use
of SUMO-model for evaluation of Mobility Management projects based on
MOST. This will put the project into a European context. The model is
being translated into English within the scope of the project and the
translation is available at the project website
http://www.move-project.org
The work that is taking place on the local
level consists of establishing network of key actors and other
stakeholders in order to get their commitment for the work and starting
up projects that will be evaluated using SUMO.
The project will run for a period of 36
months from January 2006.
