For many members of the European Federation of Agencies and Regions for Energy and the Environment (FEDARENE), the year 2017-2018 is an important one. Founded 10, 20, 25, or even 35 and 40 years ago, European local and regional energy agencies are celebrating milestone anniversaries.

In 2017, B.&S.U. (Beratungs- Und Service- Gesellschaft Umwelt) initiated the celebrations on the 30th of May with a party in Berlin for their 25th birthday. A few months later, in November 2017, three other key organisations commemorated milestone events. Energikontor Norr, the Energy Agency of North Sweden turned 20, the Berlin Energy Agency (BEA) 25, and the Basque Energy Agency (EVE) blew its 35 candles.

The enlargement of the European Union to Eastern European countries had a catalysing effect for in the energy sector as well, opening doors for the creation of new energy agencies. ALEA, the local energy of Alba, Romania, is one of them, and just celebrated 10 years of existence in April 2018. The Regional Energy Agency of North West Croatia, REGEA, also had their 10-year anniversary this year, with a birthday bash in Bračak Castle on 12 June 2018.

Next in line are Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Energie Environnement (AURA-EE) and Tipperary Energy Agency, who will be turning respectively 40 and 20 years old. For the occasion, AURA-EE is organising a conference on territories in Transition on the 27th of June 2018. In September, Tipperary Energy Agency will host the 2018 General Assembly of FEDARENE in Clonmel in parallel of other events and celebrations.

FEDARENE would like to congratulate its members for their achievements and to wish them many more for the years to come. We are very proud to represent a network of such ambitious and dynamic organisations who are leading the energy transition and shaping the future of energy resources in their territories.
