Cloughjordan “Ecovillage” winner at the LivCom Awards thanks to the SERVE project

This year, the “Ecovillage” in Cloughjordan, County Tipperary won a Gold Medal Award at the 2013 International Awards for Liveable Communities (LivCom). The prestigious competition, also known as the “Green Oscars”, is dedicated to championing and rewarding sustainable development, quality of life and environmental best practice in communities around the world.

This year, the LivCom was hosted by Xiamen, PR China; after three intensive days evaluating more than 60 finalists from around 30 countries, the winners were announced on the 2nd December at the closing ceremony. The Cloughjordan’s Ecovillage won First Prize in the “Socio-Economic Projects” category as an innovative project aimed at enhancing sustainability and environmental awareness and having a positive impact on the local community and environment.

The Ecovillage initiative has been implemented in the context of the SERVE project. This project, funded under the EU CONCERTO Programme, is aimed at developing a sustainable energy region in North Tipperary, Ireland, through the implementation of actions in the field of energy; these measures are expected to achieve significant energy consumption reduction and increases in the use of renewable energies.
