FEDARENE Members win European Energy Service Awards!

Two of our members have had their projects recognised at the European Energy Service Awards. Both the EnerSHIFT and NEWLIGHT projects received an award at the Covenant of Mayors Investment Forum!

We’re very excited to report that two FEDARENE members won European Energy Service Awards at the Convenant of Mayors Investment Forum.

Winning the award in the“Best European Energy Service Promoter” Category was the EnerSHIFT project, a large-scale energy retrofit investment portfolio for public properties in the social housing sector in the Region of Liguria which has been realised for the very first time in Italy. The result is that the first EPC tender for Social Housing has been launched, investments of €15 million have been triggered and 76 buildings have been retrofitted. This has led to heat reduction of about 50% and a reduction in CO2 emissions of more than 3,500 tons.

Financed by the European Community as part of its “Horizon 2020” research and innovation framework programme, thanks to EnerSHIFT, 44 public housing buildings in Liguria were renovated through innovative financing mechanisms. Energy performance contracts (EPC) were signed, under which the investments made by the parties implementing the works (usually ESCo – Energy Service Companies) are offset by part of the energy savings obtained.

Another success was for the NEWLIGHT Project from REGEA in Croatia, which won a Recognition Award from the jury. REGEA addressed the modernisation of public lighting systems in 57 municipalities , with the potential to achieve up to 60% in energy and cost savings. In order to collect all the necessary technical data, REGEA developed a methodology for street lighting and specialised software/mobile app (GIS based) energy audits.

In August 2015 the European Commission approved NEWLIGHT, the first Croatian project financed by the EIB ELENA Facility and implemented mainly through Energy Performance Contracting (EPC) and Public-private partnership (PPP) financial mechanisms for the reconstruction and modernisation of public lighting in two counties – Zagreb and Krapina-Zagorje.

We are pleased and very proud that these meaningful projects have been recognised for all the great work they have done!
